Health & Safety Law Advice

Advice to Businesses

Consultancy services for law firms

Health & Safety issues are relevant in every workplace, and are particularly prominent where the risks are higher, for instance where dangerous substances are handled or where there is heavy machinery or working at heights. At Fergusson Law we believe prevention is better than cure and we are able to offer up front, simple and comprehensive advice to enable you to comply with Health & Safety Legislation.

Janice Fergusson Nisbet, the principal of Fergusson Law, worked as an Inspector for the Health and Safety Executive for 20 years before training as a lawyer, and has a wide range of health and safety regulatory experience.  Her particular areas of expertise include the food and drinks industries, and major hazard industries such as petrochemical plants, power stations and offshore installations.  She also has considerable regulatory experience in the construction, agriculture and transport industries.

Janice belongs to the Health and Safety Lawyers’ Association and is able to offer clients independent advisory and training services.    By adopting a realistic and pragmatic approach and working within legal and financial constraints, she can help you to achieve the maximum benefit through effective management of Health & Safety issues.

To give you a flavour of the range of issues we can cover, these include machinery guarding, systems of work, protective clothing, provision and use of workplace equipment, electrical safety, workplace transport, working at heights, manual handling, lifting equipment, risk assessment, control of substances hazardous to health, and more.

We also recognise that it is not always possible to ensure compliance 100% of the time and are able to assist and advise on Health & Safety investigations and prosecutions including advice on the following:

  • Alleged breaches of Health and Safety Legislation
  • Corporate manslaughter under The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007
  • Interviews under caution
  • Advice on Health & Safety prosecutions in all Courts
  • Prohibition Notices
  • Improvement Notices
  • Reporting incidents under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR Reports)

We specialise in fixed prices, agreed with the client in advance.  If you would like to use our services please call Janice on 0131 556 4044.  We will discuss your requirements and provide you with a quote for the work instructed
